For titanium you will need another method to fix the lower rails. Welding titanium is way beyond home shop capabilities as it needs an Argon purged chamber to weld in. I don't know for sure yet, but probably titanium alloys aren't hard enough for ejector service. I'm in the process of bending up some experimental receiver shells in 304 stainless and titanium. To allow for excess to trim you need 6"x12" for a receiver blank. Go to the File Listings page and scroll down to the AK-47 heading.Īs I'm not an AK person, I can't vouch for the accuracy of any of these drawings, but I think that at least one of them does have some crude drawings of the rails. There are several different sets of plans, blueprints, and templates over in the Library Section here. You'd also need a couple of pieces of flat about 2"x4" for the rails. Probably what you would need is about a 6"x11" sheet of metal as the finished size of the flat is about 10.25"x5.2". Also, does anyone have blueprints for the lower rails, so that I could make them out of Ti also? If I wanted to make a AK47 receiver from a peice of sheetmetal, what dimensions should it be?
